2020 Interview with Congressmember Carbajal

Interviewers: Lucille Boss, Laura Piña, Leslie BrtekJanuary 20, 2021 This interview took place the day after the Biden-Harris inauguration, just two weeks following the invasion of the Capitol building. Members of Congress had been encouraged to stay in their offices unless part of the certification process on January 6, 2021 in order to maintain physical distancing protocols due to COVID-19. Rep. Carbajal, his wife, and staff were in his office during the invasion and remained safe while observing the proceedings and news on office television. Response to Siege on the US Capitol

SBWPC Members – Yesterday, I had planned to send a communication to celebrate the Senate victories in Georgia. However, I watched the news yesterday in complete horror at the events unfolding in our nation’s Capitol. Congress convened to fulfill their Constitutional duty to confirm the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In the midst of what should have been a ceremonial event, some Representatives and Senators planned to state their objections in a last attempt to overturn the will of the people and cast unfounded doubt on the Election. Feminist Voter Guide

SBWPC Members, There is quite a lot to share with you this month. But I must start by saying the words that are heavy on my heart today: Breonna Taylor Breonna Taylor deserved justice, she did not get it. She deserved better. Black women deserve better. We must do better to seek justice and reaffirm that Black Lives Matter. Remembering Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg I was so proud to have SBWPC join other women’s organizations in our community to organize a Vigil to honor the life and work of Justice Ginsburg and speak out on the precarious moment we find ourselves in to retain the rights and freedoms that are essential to our feminist values. 84 Days to Go…

SBWPC Members, As of August 11, there are 84 days to go until election day. We’ve heard over and over that this election will be the most important election of our lives. We know what is at stake. So the question must be – what are we going to do to ensure that on November 4th, the day after the election, we have secured victories for our feminist candidates up and down the ballot? There is a great deal of attention on National elections and on key Senate races in other States.
