Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is a proposed U.S. Constitutional amendment intended to guarantee equal rights regardless of sex, first proposed in 1923 and passed by Congress in 1972. Although 38 states ratified it as of 2020, its status is uncertain due to a 1982 deadline and legal challenges, preventing its official publication.
