Congressman Carbajal’s Legislation Bipartisan Sponsorships: 17 bills sponsored, 8 are bipartisan Feminist issues remain a top priority. With the Democratic majority in the House, we have been able to make significant gains and also block Republican attacks on the issues we care about. Unfortunately, the Senate remains a roadblock to getting pro-active bills to the President’s desk, though that is not stopping us from conducting hearings on important legislation and moving as many bills to the House floor as we can. SBWPC Interview with Congressman Salud Carbajal – 2019

On October 25, 2019, Lucille Boss and Anna DiStefano of the SBWPC’s Legislative & Advocacy Committee met with Congressman Salud Carbajal to review and discuss his work during the past year. Congressman Carbajal began the meeting by sharing an eight-page summary of his legislative work this past year. The hour-long discussion that ensued was free-flowing, cordial, and frank. The Congressman expressed pleasure with the diversity of his staff. Fourteen of 17 staff members are women, and 7 of those 14 women are women of color. Getting to Work

The Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee kicked off 2019 with a visible presence at the Women’s March Santa Barbara, our Annual Membership Meeting and with a Board Retreat. At the Women’s March, I was proud to represent SBWPC and speak about our feminist values and our determination to continue to persist in the face of relentless efforts to curtail our rights. It was a beautiful and powerful day in our community and an energizing event. Later in January, we hosted our annual all member meeting. This event is always a great opportunity for members to come together and gear up for the next year. Please update us on your mentoring of women to participate in the political process since our last interview a year ago.
